Job description

At Bristol Myers Squibb, our employees often ask, “Who are you working for?”—a question that fuels collaboration, accountability, and urgency in our work. Our purpose-driven culture inspires us to discover, develop, and deliver innovative medicines to prevail over serious diseases. We offer uniquely interesting and meaningful work, opportunities for growth, and a supportive environment that values inclusion, wellbeing, flexibility, and comprehensive benefits. This is work that transforms the lives of patients, and the careers of those who do it. Key Responsibilities Strategic Portfolio Leadership: Own the 3-year strategic MEG plan for Oncology (solid tumor and hematology) — the largest portfolio in MEG, comprising ~60% of the overall Book of Work — setting direction, priorities, and trade-offs across the full portfolio of studies in partnership with the worldwide TA (WWTA) leadership. Integrated Evidence Planning: Set the strategic framework for, and provide executive oversight of the IEPs for Oncology assets/indications across both solid tumor and hematology, ensuring alignment with unmet medical needs and enterprise business priorities, in partnership with WWTA teams, HEOR, GDD and other senior internal stakeholders. Enterprise Portfolio Ownership: Hold ultimate accountability for the strategic direction, prioritization, and governance of the Oncology MEG book of work (Medical Affairs sponsored studies, clinical research collaborations, investigator-sponsored studies and Real World Evidence studies), ensuring the portfolio remains on strategy, appropriately resourced, and delivering enterprise-level impact. Matrix and Executive Leadership: Serve as a senior matrix partner to the Global TA Head, Global Medical and International Medical leadership teams. Set direction for Medical governance through the TAG forum and provide executive sponsorship for MEG leads leading EGWG meetings. Innovation and Data-Driven Strategy: Champion a culture of innovation across the portfolio, driving enterprise-level initiatives to advance evidence generation approaches and using digital and AI tools, data analytics and business acumen to define the value drivers that shape portfolio-level, data-driven decisions. Portfolio Governance and Oversight: Provide senior scientific and strategic oversight for the full portfolio of studies within remit, holding the organization accountable for rigor, timeliness, and quality, while maintaining overall fiscal stewardship and a balanced budget for the MEG Book of Work (BOW) at the portfolio level. Chair the Review Committees for final protocols, amendments, and budgets for studies under remit, exercising executive judgment on portfolio-level trade-offs. Serve as the senior subject matter expert and executive voice on the Oncology book of work, providing strategic updates to senior leadership and key stakeholders across the enterprise. Organizational Leadership: Lead, develop, and set strategic direction for a large team of 25+ professionals — including MEG Leads, Clinical Scientists, Clinical Trial Physicians and project managers — building organizational capability and empowering leaders within the team to drive execution, rather than managing day-to-day operational detail. External and Executive Engagement: Serve as a trusted senior expert and enterprise representative in engagements with investigators, external stakeholders, and cross-functional executive teams, shaping scientific rationale, strategic impact, and portfolio-level decisions on execution, budget, and data readouts. Qualifications & Experience Advanced scientific degree (e.g. Pharm.D., MD, PhD) with 15+ years of experience; 5+ years clinical trial expertise with a mix of development/clinical and medical with an emphasis on conduct/execution of trials, plus demonstrated experience operating at a strategic, portfolio-wide level.
