Building Location: Building B - St Marys Medical Center Department: 2005100 NURSING ADMINISTRATION - SMMC HOSP Job Description: The Nurse Internship is a paid, skill-based clinical role designed to bridge nursing education and professional practice through RN preceptorship, interdisciplinary collaboration and progressive skill development. Nurse interns gain hands-on clinical experience under the direct supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse (RN). This role offers individualized placement within hospital and ambulatory care settings, allowing students to explore clinical specialties while building confidence, competence and professional identity. Interns are expected to function within an established student scope of practice, follow facility policies, and comply with Joint Commission and all applicable federal, state, and local regulatory or accrediting agencies. Summer Nurse interns have the opportunity to continue as a Senior Nurse Intern for the following fall and/or spring semesters based on performance and availability. Education Qualifications: As a Student Nurse Intern, you will work under direct supervision, providing essential support in both routine and technical aspects of nursing care for patients of all ages. Wage: $22/per hour Internship Dates: June 7th - August 13th, 2027 Location: Duluth Superior Key Responsibilities: Assist with patient care activities while adhering to best practices and protocols. Collaborate with nursing staff to ensure compliance with the Joint Commission and other relevant federal, state, and local regulations. Help maintain a safe and healing environment for patients and families. Units Available for Student Nurse Interns: Neurotrauma ICU Cardiovascular ICU Float Team Emergency Department (ED) Medical/Surgical Medical Unit Oncology Family Birthplace NICU Maternal Child Health Float Pool Ortho Trauma and Urology Neuro Trauma Post Op General Surgery (after PACU) Cardiology Observation Unit Inpatient Rehab Adult Behavioral Health Child/Adolescent Behavioral Health Solvay Hospice House Home Health Clinics: OB/GYN, Family Medicine, Infusion *Unit availability may vary. Internship Requirements: Current enrollment in an accredited nursing program (BSN or ADN) Completion of junior year coursework of a Bachelor’s Nursing Program OR two semesters of an Associates Nursing Program by summer 2027. Enrollment and active participation in an approved internship co-operative course at an accredited nursing school in the state of employment for the summer semester Must be able to commit to 32-40 hours/week (up to 400 hours for the entire summer). Working Shifts Include: days, nights, and weekends Students with full/part-time summer class loads will have adjusted hour requirements and must be able to commit to 32 hours every two weeks * Summer Interns could continue their internship during the school in a PRN capacity as Senior Intern (space may be limited) * **Please also note, this is a temporary status position and is not eligible for benefits** Licensure/Certification Qualifications: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification within 1 month of hire. This certification must not expire during the internship.
