Job description

Job Type: Full-time | Location: Sydney, NSW | Department: Network | Reporting to: Vice President, Network Engineering | Work Location Type: #onsite IREN is a vertically integrated AI Cloud provider, delivering large-scale data centers and GPU clusters for AI training and inference. IREN’s platform is underpinned by its expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and power in renewable-rich regions across North America, Europe and APAC. With 100% renewable energy, we build, own and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high-performance compute. We believe that human progress is invaluable, but it should be done in the right way – responsibly, sustainably and having a positive impact on the communities we operate in. We have grown substantially since 2019, from our inception in Australia to now having several facilities across North America and being listed on NASDAQ… and we are just getting started! By joining us, you will be contributing to the future of sustainable high-performance compute and the local communities we strive to have a positive impact on. Our Network Engineering team builds the networks that power AI at scale. We design and run the high-performance fabrics that connect tens of thousands of GPUs, the backbone and WAN that link our campuses across continents, and the facilities networks that keep our data centres safe and running. Our work spans all aspects of network engineering for IREN, from the data centre and core to the WAN and peering edge. As a Staff Network Development Engineer you will set the technical direction for the software that runs IREN's network. You will architect the platforms that design, deploy, validate and operate our networks at global scale, lead the hardest engineering problems hands-on, and grow the network software capability of the team. Responsibilities Define the architecture and roadmap for IREN's network automation platform, from source of truth and configuration generation to deployment, validation and closed-loop remediation. Design and build core services yourself, writing and reviewing production code in Python or Go. Set the engineering standards for network software, including system design, testing, code review, CI/CD, release and reliability. Lead the design of network telemetry, observability and analytics at scale, and use them to automate operations. Lead the use of AI and machine learning in network operations, such as anomaly detection, troubleshooting assistants and automated change review. Partner with network architecture, security and engineering leaders to make the network software-defined from design through operation. Responsible for the safety of automated production changes, and lead incident reviews where software is involved. Mentor senior engineers and grow the network software engineering capability of the team. Growth Opportunities Define how a network built for AI at global scale is run as software. Influence architecture, tooling and team structure as Network Engineering grows. Requirements Extensive experience as a senior or staff software, network development or site reliability engineer for large data centre, cloud or hyperscale networks. Expert software engineering skills in Python or Go, with a track record of designing and delivering distributed systems, services and APIs in production. Deep experience with network automation platforms, data models such as YANG, streaming telemetry and closed-loop automation. Strong BGP, OSPF or IS-IS, MPLS with traffic engineering, VXLAN and EVPN knowledge, and experience with large HPC and AI networks. Experience with network platforms such as Cisco, Juniper and Arista, and their programmable interfaces. A clear view on applying AI and machine learning to network operations. Experience with NVIDIA Spectrum networking, RoCE or InfiniBand, HPC or GPU platforms is highly regarded. The credibility to set technical direction
