Job description
Leads the design, development, and implementation of high-performing, scalable software and data solutions that support Wellmark’s business and technology needs. Guides teams through system and data architecture, development, testing, and optimization, with a focus on modern data engineering practices and emerging technologies.  Drives the design and delivery of data platforms and pipelines using Azure tools (e.g., Synapse, Data Factory, OneLake, Microsoft Fabric), enabling efficient data integration, transformation, and analytics. Applies strong expertise in data warehousing, semantic modeling, and Power BI (including DAX, Power Query/M) to deliver impactful reporting and insights.  Promotes best practices across development and data disciplines, including CI/CD, automation, and data governance. Partners with business and technology leaders to deliver data-driven solutions, improve processes, and expand capabilities, while supporting a diverse, global development model.  Job Leveling Note:  This role can be filled at the Senior or Lead level. Please see the requirements below and apply whether you have the minimum amount of experience or more!   Preferred:  Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Power BI (including DAX and data modeling)  Experience with a cloud data platform such as Fabric, Azure SQL/Synapse, databricks, or Snowflake  Experience with Azure Ecosystem tools ( e.g. Synapse, data factory, onelake)  Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or R  Understanding of data architecture and warehousing concepts  Solid understanding of data warehousing and semantic modeling  Strong familiarity with Microsoft Fabric components such as dataflows and ETL Processes  Solid understanding of data warehousing and semantic modeling  Strong expertise in DAX, data modeling, coupled with experience in M scripting within Power Query.  Required:  Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field of study, and at least 2 years of software development experience (ex. Python, DAX, M, R, TypeScript, JavaScript) OR 6 years of related and applicable experience.  Strong analytical problem-solving skills. Accuracy and high attention to detail. Previous experience troubleshooting and developing creative technical solutions. Ability to provide innovative solutions to complex issues.  Demonstrated experience in software development lifecycle methodologies.  Big picture thinker with the ability to translate the value of the WaaS strategy to company strategy when making design and development decisions.  Demonstrated, strong ability to gather information, perform necessary research needed for root cause analysis, problem definition and formulation, recommend solution implementation, verification, and ongoing optimization, using data to support recommendations and best practices.  Demonstrated ability to build relationships to reach outcomes that gain the support and acceptance of all parties. Ability to communicate key information in a timely manner to the appropriate stakeholder audience with the ability to adjust communication style that will best suit the audience.  Ability to communicate with and coach/mentor team members, while setting an example in maintaining a positive attitude, staying calm under pressure, being approachable, and respectful and taking responsibility for failures.  Ability to thrive in fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
