Our Dentrix Ascend engineering team contributes to the development of Dentrix Ascend, our cloud-based practice management platform used by dental practices across the United States. Engineers in Canada work closely with product and engineering partners to build scalable features, improve system performance, and strengthen the reliability of a modern, cloud-native solution. This team plays an important role in driving technical quality, innovation, and continuous improvement for one of Henry Schein One’s growing cloud products. About the Opportunity We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our True North team and help build and evolve Dentrix Ascend for the US market. In this role, you will design, develop, test, and deliver reliable software for a complex SaaS platform used by dental professionals throughout their day. You will work across the development lifecycle, contribute to technical decisions, resolve complex production issues, and help improve the quality and maintainability of the codebase. This is a hands-on individual contributor role for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, collaborating across disciplines, and supporting the growth of other developers. You will work closely with Product, Engineering, UX, and Quality partners across our distributed organization. Availability This is a hybrid role, with one day per week in our Surrey, BC office to support collaboration, brainstorming, and team connection. Our office is located across from Guildford Mall. What You’ll Do Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable software for the Dentrix Ascend platform Build high-quality backend services, APIs, database integrations, and user-facing functionality Translate product and business requirements into practical, maintainable technical solutions Contribute to technical design discussions and make recommendations that balance delivery, scalability, performance, and long-term maintainability Write clean, secure, well-tested code and participate actively in code reviews Investigate and resolve complex production issues, identifying root causes and implementing sustainable solutions Improve application performance, reliability, monitoring, and development workflows Collaborate with Product, UX, Quality, and other engineering teams throughout planning and delivery Support engineering modernization initiatives, including framework, architecture, and tooling improvements Mentor other developers through code reviews, pairing, knowledge sharing, and technical guidance Contribute to team standards and engineering practices while remaining accountable for your own delivery commitments Explore practical ways to use AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and software quality What You’ll Bring 5+ years of professional software development experience, including experience building complex web or SaaS applications Strong experience with Java and modern object-oriented software development Experience with Groovy, Grails, Spring, or a comparable Java-based framework Experience designing, building, and consuming RESTful APIs Strong understanding of relational databases,
