Job description
The Production Technician is PHLgovTV’s primary camera operator and staff editor — a hybrid craft role responsible for image acquisition on all studio and field productions, camera coverage of government proceedings, footage ingest and management, and primary editing of weekly episodes to broadcast-ready delivery in the 1080p59.94 house format.  Essential Functions  Operate A-camera on all studio productions and field shoots: camera setup, lighting execution (3-point studio kit), audio capture in coordination with the producing team, and shot composition to the series’ visual standards.  Operate camera positions for live City Council sessions, committee hearings, and mayoral press briefings, including PTZ camera shading/operation in coordination with master control.  Serve as primary editor: ingest, transcode, organize, and edit weekly episodes; build cuts to producer notes; conform graphics from Creative Services; deliver broadcast masters and web/social versions on deadline.  Prepare, maintain, and transport production equipment: cameras, lenses, wireless microphone systems, lighting, teleprompter, and the mobile podium; maintain the equipment checkout and maintenance log.  Manage media workflow: camera cards, field drives, NAS organization, and archive handoff.  Execute caption-ready deliverables and confirm ICap submission specs with the Channel Administrator.  Support LiveU field streaming operations for remote live broadcasts.  Serve as backup TD/playout operator for master control, cross-trained by the Master Control & Facilities Engineer (Production Lead), providing engineering redundancy for live Council sessions and other broadcasts.  Assist the Master Control & Facilities Engineer with studio and control room setup, cabling, and troubleshooting as assigned.  Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities  Expert camera operation across studio (pedestal/tripod) and field (handheld/gimbal) environments; strong lighting and composition fundamentals.  Professional editing proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, including multicam workflows, audio sweetening basics, and broadcast-legal delivery.  Working knowledge of broadcast signal standards (SDI, genlock, 1080p59.94) and production intercom/tally environments; aptitude to cross-train on master control playout (TelVue HyperCaster) and switcher operation.  Disciplined media management habits — zero-loss card and drive workflows.  Calm, reliable presence during live government broadcasts.  Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in film/TV production, media technology, or related field — or equivalent experience.  Minimum 3 years of professional camera operation experience; minimum 2 years of professional editing experience (may be concurrent).  Reel demonstrating both camera and editing work required.  Live event, government meeting, or news production experience preferred.  Valid driver’s license preferred (equipment transport to field and Simons Recreation Center locations).  Salary: $70,000 Salary cannot exceed $70,000 Important: To apply, candidates must provide a cover letter and a resume.
