Job description

PCB Designer/Engineer Astronics is a publicly traded global aerospace company and a dynamic manufacturer for the aviation and aerospace market in commercial air transport, business/private jet, and military air/ground vehicles. Luminescent Systems, a division of Astronics Corporation in East Aurora, NY, is looking for an experienced PCB Designer/Engineer to join its engineering team. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, you'll be responsible for designing complex mixed-signal, multi-layer SMT and thru-hole printed circuit boards (PCBs) used in new and existing products as well as test equipment. You'll work closely with design engineers to create schematics and layouts, maintain the PCB component library, provide system-level training, and support surface mount assembly by creating and maintaining stencil and reflow fixture drawings. This is a hands-on, high-visibility role — you'll be the go-to expert for PCBs within the organization. This position may offer a flexible hybrid/remote work arrangement, allowing employees to work from home with occasional in-office collaboration as needed. What You'll Do Design complex, multi-layer rigid, flex, and rigid-flex PCB layouts, handling dense component placement and routing constraints. Enforce design rules for impedance control, differential pair routing, propagation delay, and EMI/EMC mitigation to maintain signal and power integrity. Apply advanced layout strategies to optimize high-speed digital, analog, and RF circuits while adhering to strict industry standards for reliability, signal integrity, and manufacturability. Own complete fabrication and assembly documentation packages (Gerbers, ODB++, 2D/3D drawings, bills of materials) and maintain component libraries in accordance with IPC standards. Partner with electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to drive design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA). Provide necessary documentation for circuit board fabrication and serve as the point of contact for external supplier technical questions. Support product development and test equipment development. Work with other Astronics divisions on PCB designs/layouts, including library management. Guide junior and intermediate designers, review layouts, and establish team best practices. Perform other duties as assigned. What We're Looking For Education & Experience 10+ years of hands-on PCB layout experience, ideally in high-reliability fields like aerospace, defense, automotive, or complex commercial electronics. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering/Technology or Computer Engineering preferred; an Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent practical experience plus an additional 5 years of experience will also be considered. Competencies High degree of electrical and mechanical aptitude. Natural mentor and teacher, able to guide junior and intermediate designers and establish team best practices. Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, able to partner effectively with electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing teams. Comfortable serving as the go-to technical point of contact for internal teams and external suppliers. Technical Skills High level of knowledge of electronic components and packages. Advanced skills in industry-standard tools such as Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, or Siemens Xpedition; experience with Altium and/or PADS is ideal. Deep understanding of IPC standards (e.g., IPC-2221, IPC Class 3). Work Environment Primarily office-based, with occasional in-office collaboration if working a hybrid/remote arrangement. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Occasional lifting of items up to 25 lbs. Why You'll Enjoy Working Here: Flexibility that works: 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off, plus a potential flexible hybrid/remote work arrangement. Culture of Balance & Growth – We believe in creating space for life outside of work while offering constant opportunities to sharpen your sk
