Job description

About Halter At Halter, we’re on a mission to enable farmers and graziers to run the most productive and sustainable operations. Our customers are using Halter to break free from the time-intensive constraints of conventional practices. Imagine watching 500 cattle stand up and walk calmly towards their next break? No quad bikes, no dogs, no fences. Just a group of cattle walking at their own pace. People say it looks like magic. Our customers are revolutionizing grazing with Halter. It's changing lives and transforming an industry. People join Halter to do meaningful work. By joining us you’ll be solving challenging problems within a talented team and a culture built for high performance. Our team out-think, out-work and out-care. We’re committed to delivering real change in the world - this isn’t easy, and in truth, we love that it’s hard. We’re backed to deliver on a mission that matters by Tier 1 investors including Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, BOND, DCVC, Blackbird, Promus Ventures, Rocket Lab’s Peter Beck and Icehouse ventures. This isn’t a support role, you’ll be driving design decisions, solving complex problems in the field, and seeing your work through from concept to mass deployment. You’ll work across everything from ultra-low power design, RF optimisation, antenna tuning, and solar conversion, to battery systems, audio, and high-voltage pulse circuits. It’s deeply technical and fast-moving, the kind of environment where strong engineers thrive. We want someone who’s excited to build for the real world, not just the lab. Someone who gets energy from turning tough constraints into smart solutions. What your day could look like. • Rapidly design, develop, and test highly reliable electronics for world-leading animal wearables and infrastructure. • End-to-end electronic design ownership including component selection, analysis, simulation, schematic design, PCB layout, prototyping, debugging, documentation, manufacturing, and testing. • Consistently innovate to improve reliability and hardware performance while minimizing cost to hit ambitious targets. • Collaborate with firmware, advanced systems, mechanical, production and farm teams. • Design for manufacturing, design for testing, and design for EMC. • Develop and execute validation plans to verify all critical features. • Root cause analysis of manufacturing and field returns, providing clinical feedback for design improvements. Who we’re looking for. Our ideal candidate has: • A tertiary degree in Electronics Engineering, or similar relevant qualification. • At least 3+ years' professional experience, having grown your craft at a larger engineering organisation before taking on more autonomy - open to Intermediate through Senior/Lead, with scope and ownership scaling with experience. • Proven experience designing and delivering reliable electrical hardware from concept through production, ideally including full product lifecycle ownership. • Experience designing and implementing circuit boards using MCUs, SoCs, IMUs, GPS, WiFi, LoRa, I2C, SPI, OpAmps, ADCs/DACs, and analog/digital mixed-signal design. • Experience in ultra-low power IoT electronics design - power generation (solar, high voltage generation and insulation), power conversion (DC-DC), and power consumption/usage optimisation. • Proficiency with EE tools (SPICE simulation, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, signal generators, LCR meters, current clamps, HV meters, etc.). • For senior/lead candidates: experience mentoring engineers, leading design reviews, or owning a subsystem/functional area end-to-end. • Strong organisation, time management, and communication skills. • Ability to thrive in a self-driven and demanding startup atmosphere. • Based in Auckland, with travel as required to China and Thailand predominantly - typical
