Job description

Skanska is searching for a dynamic Emerging Technology Engineer. This is a great opportunity to start a career with a company that builds things that matter and values its team. We are proud to share our culture of diversity and inclusion. The Emerging Technology Engineer builds and deploys custom software tools that close the gap between Skanska’s enterprise systems and the project-specific workflows. The role is embedded on operating civil projects in defined rotations, mapping how work actually gets done, identifying the highest-value automation targets, and ships working tools before rolling to the next assignment. The output is deployed software plus a documented workflow map, packaged so other projects can adopt it through a shared Skanska tool catalog. This role sits at the intersection of construction operations and IT, uses AI-assisted development to deliver purpose-built tools, and may also evaluate and pilot other emerging technologies (reality capture, IoT, machine learning use cases) where they solve a measured project problem. The engineer partners with project teams, operations leaders, and IT to ensure every tool delivers measurable hours returned, integrates with existing systems of record, and follows company data governance practices. Emerging Technology Engineer Qualifications: Full-stack software development experience with a track record of shipping working tools quickly. React, TypeScript, and a managed backend such as Firebase or Supabase is the baseline stack. Fluency with AI-assisted development workflows, including agentic coding tools, and strong data modeling instincts. Most of these tools are workflow and state problems, not algorithm problems. Willing to work out of a jobsite trailer, attend field walks, wear PPE, and partner with field teams to collaborate and deeply understand project and team technical pain points. Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, Construction Management or a related field or 8 years equivalent experience Minimum 3 years prior relevant experience in software development, construction technology, or a construction role with demonstrated tool building. Prior construction, engineering, or heavy civil exposure, including transportation infrastructure means and methods preferred.
