Job description
About Overwatch Mission Critical Overwatch is a service-disabled Veteran-owned small business (SDVOB) certified through the National Veterans Business Development Council (NVBDC), delivering construction professional services, talent acquisition, and general contractor solutions within the mission-critical infrastructure industry. Our focus is the construction and management of state-of-the-art data centers, executed with the precision and reliability this industry demands. From high-end engineers to seasoned field professionals, we deploy the talent needed to bring complex infrastructure to life. At Overwatch, it's more than a job — it's purpose. Role Overview Overwatch is seeking a Director of Accounting & Tax to lead and own the full accounting and tax function across our multi-entity organization. This is a leadership role responsible for the integrity, efficiency, and scalability of all accounting operations — from daily accounting and close to financial reporting, external audit, and federal and state tax compliance. The Director will serve as a key partner to the VP of Accounting and executive leadership, translating strategic priorities into sound financial operations and controls. This position requires a doer mentality — someone who is not afraid to roll up their sleeves and get into the details while maintaining the ability to step back and see the big picture. The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting leader and builder who thrives in high-growth, fast-changing environments. You bring deep technical accounting knowledge, a continuous improvement mindset, and the organizational maturity to lead teams, drive process discipline, and implement the technology and automation that scale a growing finance function. This role reports to the Vice President of Accounting and partners closely with other departments, business units, and executive leadership across the organization. What You'll Own: Own the month-end close process from end to end — journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany eliminations, and financial statement preparation — across multiple entities and subsidiaries. Manage day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, inventory, and payroll accounting. Maintain and strengthen the financial controls environment, ensuring policies and procedures are current, documented, and consistently applied. Oversee cash flow visibility, banking relationships, and treasury operations across the organization. Produce accurate, timely financial statements and reporting packages for executive leadership and stakeholders across all subsidiaries. Ensure compliance with US GAAP, including ASC 606 revenue recognition across complex multi-entity and project-based service models, and ASC 842 lease accounting across a significant and growing lease portfolio. Lead external audit engagements — coordinating with auditors, managing PBC requests, and resolving technical accounting issues. Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis in collaboration with the VP of Accounting. Serve as the primary point of contact with external tax partners across key tax areas including sales tax, voluntary disclosure agreements (VDA), income tax, franchise tax, and property tax. Coordinate and oversee all federal and state income tax filings and multi-state tax compliance in partnership with external advisors. Lead and optimize NetSuite and other accounting technology to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability. Develop and implement automation and AI-enabled workflows to accelerate recurring processes and reduce manual work. Leadership Build and lead a high-accountability, performance-oriented accounting team with a culture of accuracy, ownership, and continuous improvement. Operate as both a strategic leader and hands-on contributor — willing to roll up your sleeves while building the team and processes around you. Manage staff selection, onboarding, training, development, an
