Cutting Manager - Nicholasville, KY The Opportunity : The Cutting Manager role is responsible for overseeing the cutting department, ensuring safety, quality, productivity, and operational efficiency. The position manages production schedules, staffing, inventory accuracy, equipment maintenance coordination, and continuous improvement initiatives while driving performance through OEE metrics, 5S, Six Sigma principles, and employee development. How You Will Impact Smurfit Westrock : Ensure the compliance of all Cutting Department employees with the safety rules and regulations set forth by the Nicholasville Plant. Ensuring that a safe workplace is maintained at all times and that the habits and practices of every employee hold safety as the top priority. Ensure the compliance of all Cutting Department employees and processes with all food safety and quality regulations (SQF, HACCP) as well as ISO regulations. Maintain production of high-quality cartons by ensuring compliance with established quality standards and procedures, while holding Cutting Department team members accountable for quality at the point of manufacture. Proactively identify and address quality concerns, leading prompt corrective actions to resolve any non-conforming products discovered internally or reported by customers. Manage the schedule to ensure adequate labor is provided to run the machines in accordance with the production schedule. Schedule appropriate overtime and/or vacation coverage if needed to ensure that lapses in the production schedule do not occur. Ensure that the production schedule is followed and that all customer demands are met in a timely fashion provided the efficiency and/or quality performance of the Cutting Department is not compromised. Ensure that WIP counts, and inventory is accurate through the conduct of monthly audits. Ensure that Cutting Department housekeeping standards and 5S standards are met through employee discipline and the regular conduct of 5S audits and AIB-related inspections. Attend the daily OEE meeting and ensure that the Cutting Department continuous improvement efforts are directed at improving the operating efficiency of the Department by focusing on OEE drivers – MTBF, MTTR, %Max Speed and Downtime. Attend the daily Maintenance Meeting and ensure that Cutting Department employees are turning in Work Requests to cover all maintenance-related issues with the production equipment as well as the Department infrastructure. Follow-up with the Maintenance Manager to ensure that all Work Requests are addressed in a timely fashion. Ensure that the Work Order backlog is kept up-to-date and clean of any duplicate or unnecessary requests. Ensure that all PM activities on the production equipment occur at their scheduled intervals and with as little disruption to the production schedule as possible. Ensure that the PM activities are comprehensive and complete, and that the proper audit procedure for verifying the completeness of PM’s is diligently followed. Ensure that all M/R activities, or job changeovers, occur in an efficient and urgent fashion, with as little disruption to the production schedule as possible. All downtime associated with job changeovers should be minimized through continuous improvement efforts and task optimization. Support the Shift Leads in their efforts to improve the performance of their individual shifts. Ensure that the right people are in the right positions and performing at the right level.
