Job description
Job Description Summary Nuclear energy is one of the most reliable, low-carbon power sources available today — and the chemistry systems that keep reactors operating safely are central to that reliability. As a Chemical Systems Design Engineer at GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH), you'll design, test, and support the chemical injection systems that protect Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) plant infrastructure including the BWRX300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR) project. Your work sits at the intersection of laboratory science and real-world plant operations, and your contributions will be felt at every stage — from concept validation through in-plant implementation. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys hands-on problem-solving as much as precise documentation, and who wants to grow their expertise in nuclear chemistry within a collaborative, technically rigorous team. Job Description Key Responsibilities Design chemical injection systems by developing and interpreting engineering design documents and drawings and contributing to new plant design activities for chemistry-related systems and issues including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and other systems. Provide technical support alongside a team of engineers and chemists to develop, deliver, and troubleshoot products related to BWR chemistry — from laboratory testing through in-plant demonstration and implementation. Operate and oversee high-temperature, high-pressure laboratory testing loops and other mechanical test systems, ensuring safe and accurate execution of test plans. Collaborate across boundaries — interfacing with internal teams, external customers, industry group technical members, and vendors to resolve technical issues and advance BWR chemistry knowledge. Support project scoping and execution for new initiatives, including laboratory testing, in-plant demonstrations, and field delivery. Document clearly and completely — capturing test plans, evaluation results, and mechanical design requirements to the standards required for a nuclear environment. What You'll Bring You're an engineer who is equally comfortable in a lab setting and in front of a set of plant drawings. You think critically, troubleshoot systematically, and communicate technical findings with precision. Required Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Chemical, or related Engineering discipline from an accredited college or university Minimum of 2 years of Engineering experience Eligibility The required work location for this role is at the GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH) facility in San Jose, CA Willing and able to travel up to 10% (both domestic and international) Able to obtain unescorted access to nuclear power plants This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government. Preferred Prior engineering experience in a technical, laboratory, or industrial environment Knowledge of control systems, including PLCs and LabVIEW Hands-on experience designing, constructing, or maintaining custom mechanical systems Familiarity with BWR plant systems and/or nuclear chemistry This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
